About us

Nestled amidst fertile fields and woodland habitats, the Harshbarger Homestead Retreat Center is the perfect location for your next meeting, retreat or special event. Discover the peaceful surroundings and classic midwestern vistas of this beautiful rural setting.
Owned and operated by the Harshbarger Family, this unique site features homes built by early central Illinois pioneers Samuel and Daniel Harshbarger and their descendants. The 1837 log cabin provides a look into the past and is a great destination for history buffs, group tours and children's field trips. The main house, an inviting 1914 Tudor style country home, offers spacious rooms for gatherings and overnight lodging for guests. Camping in our large tipi is also a popular choice at the Retreat Center and evening bonfires are a specialty. We offer accommodations for meetings, parties, receptions and individual or group retreats in a private, peaceful setting. The center is available for daytime or overnight use.
Explore our extensive herb and flower garden and browse in our gift gallery to find handcrafted and homegrown souvenirs of your visit. Nearby attractions include the Amish settlement in Arthur, historic Tuscola and the shops and Emporium in Arcola. The University of Illinois, Eastern Illinois University and Millikin University are all within a 30 minute drive from Harshbarger Homestead Retreat Center.
